Install Urban-Style Track Lighting

Measure, Then Mark the Ceiling

This track lighting system has pendant lights and can lights. The pendant lights hang down and the can lights attach directly to the track. It is a straight 120-volt that goes into a power source. The components screw right into the track; the connection is made inside the component so you don't have to worry about getting zapped.

Measure the desired location for the track on the floor. A laser plumb bob will mark the location on the ceiling where you lay the track.

Tip: The ceiling in this project is concrete and anytime you drill into concrete, you need to use a carbide bit.

Install the Anchoring Plate and the Cables

Coat the anchor with construction adhesive to prevent it from spinning inside the hole. Tap the anchor sleeve into the hole (Image 1), and then screw in the anchoring plate.

Attach the cable that holds the track in place. It screws right into the anchoring plate (Image 2).

A laser comes in handy again to make sure all the support cables are the same length.

Safety Tip: Avoid looking directly into a laser beam.

Secure the Connectors and Finish Installation

The track is held in place with "standoffs" right at the bottom of the cable.

Tighten the connectors and attach end caps to the bottom to give the track a nice finished look.

With the electricity turned off, hook up the housing that connects to the power feed.
